Question: How do I find out my modem configuration information?

Windows 95 provides this information.

Step 1: Go to the Modem settings in Control Panel. Go to the Start button -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Modems.

Step 2: Find the Port Information for the modem. Note the name of the modem installed in Windows. Go to the Diagnostics Tab (located towards the top of the Modem Properties box).

Modem Properties

Under the Diagnostics menu, highlight the Com port that modem is listed under, and Click on the "More Info…" button.

Diagnostics Tab

Windows should show a message, "Communicating with Modem. This may take a few minutes.", and then the More Info… window should appear. At the Top of the window, is Port Information.

Port Information

Note the Com port, Interrupt, Address, and UART.

At this point, you should have written down, the Type of modem installed, the Com port, Interrupt (IRQ), Address (or Base Address), and UART.

To Exit, Click on the "OK" button, and then Cancel out of Modem Properties.
