Question: Why won't the IBM Mwave modem in my Thinkpad laptop work when I'm in Windows 3.x? It works fine in DOS, but as soon as I start Windows I can't dial out as a Remote. I also cannot maintain a connection in Windows when I'm using my Thinkpad as a Host.
Answer: The Windows drivers which ship with the Mwave do not function properly with Close-Up. IBM can provide a utility to allow the Mwave to use the DOS drivers while in Windows. The COMTEST=OFF Close-Up command line option should also be used. Make sure that the Mwave modem has been selected from the Close-Up modem list.
Note: This does not apply to the Mwave which comes with the IBM Aptiva line of desktop computers.
Step 2: Use the COMTEST=OFF command line option for Close-Up.
See the "How do I manually Configure Close-Up with my modem?" FAQ for
instructions on how to use the command line option COMTEST=OFF. Select the Mwave modem
from the Close-Up modem list. TO THE CUSTOMER: We at Norton-Lambert greatly value the opinions of you, the Close-Up
