Question: Why does Close-Up Remote lock (at the "Please Wait" screen) when I start it from within Windows?

Answer: This may be caused by a conflict or the failure of Windows to allocate resources to the Close-Up Remote program. You can download Service Pack 1 for Close-Up V6.5, or follow the steps below to manually reconfigure Close-Up. The following procedure should enable Remote to load correctly if no other conflicts are present.

Note: Make sure you have your modem information available before starting this procedure. Find out what type of modem you have, and what Com port and Interrupt Request (IRQ) your modem is configured to. See out FAQ "How do I find out my modem configuration information?"

Step 1: Please see the "How do I manually Configure Close-Up with my modem?" FAQ and follow the instructions up to Step 4 Part A. There are some changes to the command line options used to configure Remote: Comtest=no, Comw=off, and CC=1 will be used.

At the Prompt you will type in this command:

For a modem on one of the Standard Com ports and default interrupts, type in:

C:\CLOSUP65>cremote comtest=no com1 (or com2, com3, or com4) comw=off cc=1

For a modem on one of the Standard Com ports but not on a default interrupt you will use the following commands:

cremote comtest=no comx combase=hhh (the Base Address for your modem) comirq=x (the IRQ for your modem) comw=off cc=1

For example, a modem on Com3 (Base Address 3E8) Interrupt 5 will type in:

C:\CLOSUP65>cremote comtest=no comx combase=3E8 comirq=5 comw=off cc=1

At this point Remote should load, and the ‘Phone’ menu should be highlighted.

Go to the ‘Setup’ menu, and highlight the ‘Modem’ field. Hit Enter, and the Close-Up Modem list will appear. Select your Modem from the list, and hit Enter. If your modem does not appear on the list, See the "My modem is not in the Close-Up V6.5 modem list. What should I do?" FAQ for additional steps.

Highlight the ‘Baud Rate’ field and hit enter 4 times or until it reads 38,400.

The ‘Com Port’ field should show the Com port or the IRQ and Base Address you configured with the Command Line Options.

Use the down arrow key to highlight the ‘Modem Initialization and Control’ field and hit Enter.

Close-Up should attempt to initialize the modem. When the ‘Modem Control’ box appears the modem response to the initialization string should be inside. It should look something like this:

AT\C0\D1\N7
OK
AT&W
OK
ATS0=1
OK

To Exit the ‘Modem Control’ box, hit the Escape key (ESC).

If any of the responses returned with ‘ERROR’ instead of ‘OK’ the modem string you selected has an incorrect command. Make sure it is the correct modem has been selected.

If the ‘Modem Control’ box just has a blinking cursor, then your modem did not respond. Verify that you have configured Close-Up using the Command Line Options and Settings. If you still do not get a response, Check through our other FAQ documents for possible causes or contact Close-Up Tech Support.

If your modem has responded properly, Close-Up Remote configuration is complete. Go to the ‘File’ menu, and select ‘Exit Close-Up’. This should return you to the DOS prompt in the Close-Up directory. The configuration for Close-Up Remote should now be saved, and the Command line options will not have to be entered again.
