Question: Why isn’t Close-Up Setup detecting my modem?

Answer: Close-Up Setup will test all the available Com ports supported by Close-Up. Setup will not detect the modem if it does not get a proper response during the Com port test. This may be caused by a possible conflict or configuration problem.

Step 1: Find out if your modem is set to supported resources. Please refer to the "How do I find out my modem configuration information" FAQ. Close-Up 6.5 will work with Standard Com ports (and Base Addresses) only, and the Interrupt (IRQ) must be between 3 and 7.

Step 2: Make sure no other programs or applications are using the modem. Close all open Communications programs. Some communication programs (such as Fax or Email) will sometimes be running in the background. Usually they have an icon down in the Windows 95 Task bar, which will allow you to disable the software.

Step 3: If you find that your modem is set to supported resources and setup still can't find your modem you can try to manually configure Close-Up. Please refer to the "How do I manually configure my modem with Close-Up" FAQ.
