Question: Why do I keep getting the "Load once, Load always" or Host Configuration Menu each time my PC boots into Windows 95?
Answer: Close-Up 6.5 host has been set to load, but for some reason it is not loading in the boot process of Windows 95. This may be due to incorrect Close-Up references in the AUTOEXEC.BAT File of the PC.
Step 1: Make sure the Close-Up Host references are correct in the Autoexec.bat file. Edit your Autoexec.bat file, which is located in the root directory. You should see references for Close-Up Host which look similar to this:
c: cd \closup65 call cupload.bat cd\
None of these four lines should have been remarked out (have a rem at the front of them).
Make sure that the second line above (in this case, "cd \closup65") shows the directory where Host is located. If it does not, change that line so that it refers to the correct directory.
Save any changes your make to the Autoexec.bat file.
Step 2: Check to see if the Host references in the Autoexec.bat are loading properly. Reboot your PC. Chose Shutdown and Restart from Windows 95. When your PC is rebooting you should see "Starting Windows 95..." message. This should come before the Windows 95 splash screen (or Blue Clouds screen). As soon as you see that message press the F8 key. This should get you to the "Microsoft Windows 95 Startup Menu".
Step 3: Select "Step-By-Step Conformation" from the list of choices, and hit Enter.
Step 4: You will be prompted to confirm each startup command (yes or no). Say yes (or hit the Enter key) to each command until you get to the message to " process your startup command file (Autoexec.bat)". At this point you will need to look for the Close-Up 6.5 references while you are stepping through. Continue to say yes to each command. If you never see "CALL CUPLOAD.BAT" during the step process then try editing the Autoexec.bat file again, and moving the Close-Up Host references higher up in your Autoexec.bat.
