There are two ways to check and set iClose-Up
Internet Visibility and Incoming Access.
One is go to the red iClose-Up triangles in the lower right of your
screen and right click and select the “Security for This Computer”
entry and then select “iClose-Up Internet Visibility and Incoming Access”
panel. The other way is to go to the
red iClose-Up triangles in the lower right of your screen and right
click and select “Internet Visibility and Incoming Access”.
Internet
Visibility (you are visible on the Internet by
default): If you are visible on
the Internet it means that your iClose-Up registered itself with the Close-Up Internet Name Servers. This allows other iClose-Up users who you
have given your iClose-Up Internet Name to, can see you in their iClose-Up List, in their Available section. If they click on your iClose-Up Internet Name they will connect to you. If you are not visible on the
Internet it means that other iClose-Up users will not be able to connect to you
using your iClose-Up Internet Name. If however they know your IP
address and have put that into iClose-Up’s Network
Connection, in the iClose-Up phone book, they could
connect to your iClose-Up using the IP address method. To block iClose-Up IP connections to your
computer see Incoming Access below. (To create a network
type connection entry in your phone book press the Create Entry button in the iClose-Up List and select Network Connection.)
Whenever you
start your computer by default your iClose-Up is visible on the Internet. You can make iClose-Up Invisible on the
Internet using the “Internet Visibility and Incoming Access” function, but
iClose-Up will only stay Invisible until your computer is restarted. You can change Visibility permanently (even
after a restart) by double clicking on the iClose-Up red triangles in
the lower right corner of your screen to bring up the iClose-Up List.
Click the Options button, and select the Internet Tab. The first three options
on the Internet Tab deal with Internet visibility.
To find or
change your iClose-Up Internet Name double click on the iClose-Up red triangles in the lower right
corner of your screen to bring up the iClose-Up
List. Click the Options button, and select the Internet Tab.
You will find your iClose-Up Internet Name there.
Incoming
Access (access is set to open by default): If your Incoming
Access is set to Open than iClose-Up Clients can connect to you as an iClose-Up Server, and
of course you can also be an iClose-Up Client and connect to someone else. If Incoming
Access is set to Closed then iClose-Up
Clients cannot connect to you as an iClose-Up Server, but you can still be an
iClose-Up Client and connect to someone else.
Turning off Incoming Access does just what it says, it stops
iClose-Up users from connecting to you using iClose-Up even if they know your
IP address. It will stop
iClose-Up users from connecting to you by Modem, by Network, and by
Internet!
If you want to
use iClose-Up just as a Client and connect to others where they are the
iClose-Up Servers and want to be sure that no iClose-Up user connects to you,
then set Incoming Access to Closed. Note, even if you are Visible on the Internet, if you have Incoming Access set to Closed iClose-Up users will not be able to
connect.
Warning, even if you set Incoming Access to Closed, when you restart your computer Incoming
Access will be set to Open. If you want it closed all the
time, set it to closed whenever you restart your computer.
Warning: If you use this powerful
option and set Incoming Access to Closed, please do not call Norton-Lambert Technical Support department and
say that people cannot connect to you.
