Getting you started with a network connection:

There are two ways to use iClose-Up on a network.  First, and simplest is when you just want to transfer (cut & paste) files through your network.  Second, is when you want to view another iClose-Up computer remotely, through your network.

Network file transfers (copy & paste) using iClose-Up (iClose-Up on Client side only):

If you just want to use iClose-Up to transfer (copy & paste) files or synchronize files between computers on your network but do not need to view other computers (Remote Control) then read on.

iClose-Up only needs to be on the Client side.  It does not need to connect to the other computer; therefore you do not need use the iClose-Up List.

To transfer files run Windows Explorer by clicking on Start in the lower left of the screen on the iClose-Up Client computer.  Go to Programs and select Windows Explorer by clicking on it.  Once Explorer is up navigate and find the File(s) or Folder(s) you want to send and select them with your pointer then Single Click the Right mouse button.  Now select iClose-Up Copy.

Now navigate and find the location you want to send the selected File(s) or Folder(s) to.  Then Single Click the Right mouse button.  Now select iClose-Up Paste.

Network Remote Control & file transfers using iClose-Up (iClose-Up on both Client & Server side):

You need to install iClose-Up, on the computer you want to be an iClose-Up Client (the side making the connection) and on the computer you want to be the iClose-Up Server (the side receiving the connection).  To have Remote Control, install Microsoft’s NetMeeting (version 3.01 or higher) on both computers.

The following example assumes iClose-Up on both sides:

iClose-Up Server:

On the computer that you decide will be the iClose-Up Server all that is required is to have iClose-Up and NetMeeting installed, and on your network with TCP/IP.

iClose-Up Client:

a)   On the computer you decide will be the iClose-Up Client you will need to create a Network Connection entry for the iClose-Up Server you want to connect to.  Double click on the red iClose-Up triangles in the lower right of the screen, and click on Create Entry.

b)   Then select Network Connection.  Put in a Computer Name (NetBIOS name), TCP/IP address, or WINS name for the iClose-Up Server you want to connect to.

Computer Name:  Most people put in a Computer Name.  You may need to look at the other computer to get this name.  You can find this name (on the iClose-Up Server) in the Help pull-down menu on the iClose-Up Main Screen.  Right click on the red iClose-Up triangles in the lower right of iClose-Up Server screen, then select “iClose-Up Main Screen”, then select “Help” then “View Computer Name”.

Next you will be asked for a Remote Control Password for the iClose-Up Server you are connecting to.  You can check if the iClose-Up Server has a Remote Control Password by going into the iClose-Up Servers iClose-Up List, and selecting Options then Remote then Passwords.  You will leave this entry blank if there was no password, and enter the password if there was one.

c)   Now select your new entry in the iClose-Up List and click, then choose and click Connect to Entry.  Within a few seconds you will see the “Connect Options” screen giving you the choice of doing one or more of, File Transfers, Remote Control or Chatting.  If you choose to do file transfers, choose “iClose-Up Quick File Transfer…”.  If you choose to run Remote Control select “Take Remote Control…” and if you have NetMeeting installed on both sides, you will have a window in the center of your Client screen, which is your Remote Control window of the Server computer.  If you want both file transfers and remote control then select both “iClose-Up Quick File Transfer…” and “Take Remote Control…”.  That’s all there is to it, it’s that easy!.

d)  Temporary Quick Connect:  There are times that you may want to quickly connect to an iClose-Up Server on your Network or on the Internet, if you are already connected to the Internet.  To set up this feature you will need to create a special Network Connection.  Create a new Network Connection entry by Double clicking on the red iClose-Up triangles in the lower right of the screen, and then click on Create Entry.  Select Network Connection.  When it asks for a “Computer Name” leave it blank.  Next when asked for the “iClose-Up Remote Control Password” leave it blank.  Then you will be asked “Please enter a descriptive name for this computer” you can enter any name you wish.  We suggest a name like “Quick Connect” or if you are going to use this entry a lot, name it “AA Quick Connect” so it will be put at the top of the iClose-Up List.

When you select this “Quick Connect” entry in your iClose-Up List you will be asked at that point to enter a temporary Computer Name, TCP/IP address or WINS Name.  You will then be connected to the iClose-Up Server you specified.  Any time in the future that you select this entry you will again be asked to enter a temporary Computer Name, TCP/IP address or WINS Name.
