Undocumented (not in the iClose-Up Help) Routers:

·       If you have multiple incoming iClose-Up connections behind your router, click here.

·       If you are using an alternate (different) IP address for incoming connections (like Netopia Routers can use), click here.

Single iClose-Up computer behind an undocumented Router:

If you want to have one incoming iClose-Up connection to a computer behind a router that is not documented in this help file you will need to make one adjustment to iClose-Up on the iClose-Up computer behind the router.

1.     On the iClose-Up computer behind the router double click on the red iClose-Up triangles in the lower right of the screen.

2.     Click the Options button.

3.     Click the Proxy tab.

4.     Check the box on the line Internet Connection Sharing/Proxy Servers/ Routers.

5.     Click the OK button then restart your computer.

You now need to setup your Router to forward port 2338 to the IP address of your iClose-Up computer that is behind the router.  If you do not know how to find the IP address of a computer see How to Find IP Addresses.

With most Routers if the computers behind the Router are using Dynamic IP addresses you will have to change one or more of the computers to Static IP addresses.  Please read your Router documentation or call the Router manufacturer for instructions on how to setup Static IP addresses.

Multiple iClose-Up computers behind an undocumented Router:

If you want to have multiple incoming iClose-Up connections to computers behind a router that is not documented in this help file you will need to follow the directions below.

First, with most Routers if the computers behind the Router are using Dynamic IP addresses you will have to change one or more of the computers to Static IP addresses.  Please read your router documentation or call the Router manufacturer for instructions on how to setup Static IP addresses.

Now go to each iClose-Up computer that you want to receive incoming iClose-Up connections (be able to be iClose-Up Servers).  On each computer you will need to change iClose-Up’s port number and write down on a piece of paper that port number and what IP address (if you are using Static IP addresses) that computer has.  You do this so you can later associate that new port number with its IP address in your Router.

On the first iClose-Up computer double click on the red iClose-Up triangles in the lower right of your screen.  Press the Options button.  Select the Proxy tab.  First, check the box on the line Internet Connection Sharing/Proxy Servers/ Routers.  Next in the line iClose-Up Port Number for this computer you would enter a new port number (we suggest using port 50222).  Enter 50222 on the first of the computers behind the Router then press the OK button.  A message will come up telling you to restart your computer, wait; do not restart your computer yet.  Write down this number (50222) and then, if your router forwards ports to machines via their IP address which most routers do, find the IP address of this first computer and write the IP address next to the port number (you may depending on whether you had static or dynamic IP addresses have put this IP address in yourself).  If you do not know how to find the IP address of a computer see How to Find IP Addresses.  Now go ahead and restart your computer.  On the next computer you would repeat the same process, double click on the red iClose-Up triangles in the lower right of your screen.  Press the Options button.  Select the Proxy tab.  First, check the box on the line Internet Connection Sharing/Proxy Servers/ Routers.  Next in the line iClose-Up Port Number for this computer you would enter the next number in sequences 50223 then press the OK button.  A message will come up telling you to restart your computer, wait; do not restart your computer yet.  Write down the port number and then find the IP address of this computer and write the IP address next to the port number.  Now go ahead and restart this computer.  On the next computer you would repeat the same process again and increasing the port number by one to 50224 and again write it down and then find the IP address of this computer and write the IP address next to the port number.  If you had more iClose-Up computers you would keep repeating this process.

With the information you have gathered and written from your iClose-Up computers you will need to read your Router documentation or call the Router manufacturer for instructions on how to setup port forwarding on all the ports you changed in iClose-Up to the IP addresses of those iClose-Up computers.  In our example above you would be forwarding port 50222, 50223 and 50224.

Alternate IP Address for Incoming Connections (Netopia Routers):

Sometimes your ISP gives you an alternate (different) IP address for an incoming connection than the IP address used for outgoing traffic.  Some Routers like Netopia™ Routers allow you to have one or more alternate IP addresses, one address for each computer behind the Router that will be getting incoming connections.  If your router uses, an alternate IP address for an incoming connection you need to tell iClose-Up this by setting the Alternate IP Address option.  You would need to set a different IP address for each computer that is behind the router if you are going to have multiple incoming connections and you have multiple IP addresses assigned to you by your ISP. To do this, double click on the red iClose-Up triangles in the lower right of your screen.  Press the Options button.  Select the Proxy tab.  First, check the box on the line Advanced Options.  Next enter the IP address your router will accept incoming connections on in the Alternate IP Address field.  Now you can click the OK button to complete the setup.  If there are multiple iClose-Up computers that will receive incoming connections then on each computer set it to a different Alternate IP Address.
