Problem Solving

Disconnection immediately upon establishing a connection to a machine running iClose-Up:

If you are connecting to a machine running iClose-Up and are being disconnected immediately, you may not have the proper rights to connect to that machine.  Ninety percent (90%) of all problems people have with their connections involve not having the proper rights (passwords and permissions) to folders they are accessing.  If there are domains involved make sure the Domain Administrator sets up the permissions correctly.  iClose-Up adheres to Microsoft security in Windows 95/98/Me, and Windows NT/2000/XP.

Internet connection is working (i.e. able to browse websites), but iClose-Up does not register or see any users in the list online:

Double Click on the iClose-Up Triangles in the tray (bottom right corner of your screen).  After the list comes up, click on the Options button.  Then click on the Proxy tab.  Inside the Proxy Tab make sure that “Internet Connection Sharing/Proxy Servers/Routers” is checked.  If it is checked, you may be running a firewall application on your computer and will need to set rules to allow iClose-Up through it.  Please see the Firewalls & Ports document.

Problem connecting to iClose-Up Server machine running Windows XP over the Internet:

If you are trying to connect over the Internet to an iClose-Up computer that is running Windows XP but you get the message “Connection is not yet available”, you may need to disable or make a rule for the firewall running on the XP machine.  The easiest option is to just disable the firewall feature by following these steps on the iClose-Up Server computer you are calling into:

1.     Click START

2.     Point at Connect To

3.     Right-click your Internet connection

4.     Select Properties

5.     Click the Advanced tab

6.     Un-check the Internet Connection Firewall option

If you would like to keep the firewall option on and instead create a rule to allow iClose-Up server through it, read the document Firewalls and Ports for instructions.
